Well-known identity in New Zealand Fire Brigade circles, Kevin Farley, has been honoured after 50 years' service. At a recent ceremony in Laingholm, Kevin received the United Fire Brigades' Association 50 Year Gold Medal. Kevin continues service as Laingholm Volunteer Fire Brigade's Training Officer, passing on skills and expertise gained during a lifetime career with the Royal New Zealand Air Force which he joined as Boy Entrant with the Fire Flight in 1963. Kevin is also on the executive of both the Auckland Fire Brigades Historical Society and Museum and the New Zealand ex-Firefighters' Association. He is an avid collector of scale-model fire appliances, so the gift from Laingholm Fire Brigade to mark his achievement was, aptly, two finely-detailed Rosenbauer airport appliances.
