News Story
Family and friends gathered today for the funeral of our past member, Grant Wilson, who died last week in Waikato Hospital aged 63. The service was held at Crossroads Church in Mangatangi, South Auckland, where Grant had recently been living, supported by the locals, especially the church community. Our brigade, and Mangatangi Volunteer Fire Brigade, was represented at the funeral. Grant's public service began when he was a teenager as a Scout Leader in Mt Albert and then in 1978 he joined the then Auckland Fire Police Corps (now Operational Support), a member for some 30 years. Suffering poor health, he moved to South Auckland, lived in Te Kauwhata and Pokeno for a time before moving to Mangatangi. His enthusiastic heydays as a dedicated member of the fire service were recalled by his black Fire Police helmet which adorned the casket.
