Two firefighters from New York and visitors from several Australian brigades joined New Zealand fire-fighters today in downtown Auckland this afternoon to honour counterparts who have died in the execution of their duty. The event remembers, particularly, those emergency services' personnel who died in the series of tragedies on 11th September 2001 in USA, and those 56 fellow New Zealand fire-fighters who have died in the line of duty. SSO Bay, as Anglican Bishop of Auckland, officiated at the ceremony with prayers for those who gave their lives, and for firefighters everywhere. Eight members participated in the stair climb, others provided event traffic management and scene protection.
